Wow and yes! My adoption in the early 1980’s was a frying pan into the fire situation and I didn’t learn until my 30’s that my birth mom had severe intellectual disabilities and that they tricked her into signing her rights away. Imagine if programs existed to support her and us instead of sending us to her secretly alcoholic and severely abusive sister where I experienced more trauma. Thank you for this powerful piece.
